Enter MAGI and filing status. See the 2026 income-related surcharges on Part B and Part D, how close the client sits to the next bracket, and the life-changing events that let Social Security use a newer year’s income.
What it answers
- The 2026 Part B premium (standard $202.90) and Part D surcharge for any MAGI and filing status
- Which tax year counts: premiums look back two years, so 2024 income sets 2026 amounts
- How much more income keeps them in the same bracket, and what $1 over the line costs
- The life-changing events Social Security accepts on form SSA-44 to use a more recent year
For example: $145,000 single → $240.40 a month on top, $2,884.80 a year.
How it's worked out
Brackets and amounts are CMS’s published 2026 tables, including the separate table for married people filing separately who lived together.
MAGI is adjusted gross income plus tax-exempt interest. Each person on Medicare pays their own surcharge, so a couple who are both enrolled pay it twice.
The Part D surcharge is added to any Part D coverage, stand-alone or in a Medicare Advantage plan, and is paid to Medicare, not the plan.
